چکیده

INTRODUCTION Many existing balance control models have adopted a single-segment inverted pendulum to model the human body, and have focused on investigating postural sway only in the sagittal plane (e.g. Maurer et al., 2005). However, evidence indicates that postural sway in the frontal plane is important, and able to account for different balance control mechanisms as well (e.g. McClenaghan et al., 1996). Thus, a simple two-dimensional balance control model that cannot simulate medial-lateral (M/L) postural sway is not able to sufficiently reflect how humans control upright posture. The purpose of this study was to develop a balance control model that can accurately simulate postural sway in three-dimensional space.

Effects of Plantar Flexor Muscles Fatigue on Postural Control during Quiet Stance and External Perturbation in Healthy Subjects

Background: The maintenance of postural control is a key component in dynamic physical activity, especially during muscle fatigue and against external forces. Despite many studies in this field, there is no consensus regarding the effects of plantar flexor muscles fatigue on postural control during different postural tasks. Objective: To evaluate the effects of plantar flexor muscles fatigue on ...

Receding Horizon Based Control of Disturbed Upright Balance with Consideration of Foot Tilting(RESEARCH NOTE)

In some situations, when an external disturbance occurs, humans can rock stably backward and forward by lifting the toe or the heel to keep the upright balance without stepping. Many control schemes have been proposed for standing balance control under external disturbances without stepping. But, in most of them researchers have only considered a flat foot phase. In this paper a framework is pr...

Inferred influence of human lateral profile on limb load asymmetry during a quiet standing balance test.

Although the identification and characterisation of a participant's lateral profile during quiet standing have not received much research attention, they have the potential to greatly extend our understanding of upright stance stability control. This study further examines limb load asymmetries during quiet bipedal stance. During voluntary frontal-plane weight shifting for 2 min, 300 centre-of-...

Model Predictive Control and Stability Analysis of a Standing Biped with Toe-Joint

In this paper standing balance control of a biped with toe-joint is presented. The model consists of an inverted pendulum as the upper body and the foot contains toe-joint. The biped is actuated by two torques at ankle-joint and toe-joint to regulate the upper body in upright position. To model the interaction between foot and the ground, configuration constraints are defined and utilized. To s...

Reconstructing human push recovery reactions using a three dimensional under-actuated bipedal robot

This paper presents the ability of hybrid zero dynamics (HZD) feedback control method to reproduce human like movements for walking push recovery of an under-actuated 3D biped model. The balance recovery controller is implemented on a three-dimensional under-actuated bipedal model subjected to a push disturbance. The biped robot model is considered as a hybrid system with eight degrees of freed...
